People can be SO gullible … make that STUPID

Sometimes you hear a story about a scam, a con game, an email, something that bilks a person out of a lot of money, their life savings maybe, and you have to wonder; are people really that stupid?

Yes, they are. Some people will fall for anything.

Yesterday one of my Facebook friends posted a link to the following story:

Super Bowl Controversy: National Anthem Will Be Replaced with a Dodge Ad

Indianapolis — Football fans watching Super Bowl XLVI can remain seated during the pregame ceremonies this year, because the singing of The Star-Spangled Banner will be preempted by a television commercial for Dodge trucks.

“At $7 million a minute, we can’t spare the time it takes for the National Anthem to be performed,” NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell explained.

“And don’t try to accuse us of being unpatriotic here. No one’s a bigger fan of Belichick and Brady than I am. It’s just that the advertiser made us an offer we can’t refuse.”

The sponsor of the ad, the Chrysler Corporation, is now owned by the Italian automaker Fiat.

“Perhaps we will play the Italian National Anthem during our commercial,” a Fiat spokesman said. “It is much more soothing than the American anthem. No bombs bursting or rockets glaring. We play nice.”

Upon learning of the Star-Spangled ban, Congressional Crybaby John Boehner (R-Ohio) immediately assembled The House Un-American Subcommittee to enforce Americanism in this matter.

“We expect the esteemed panel’s findings to be available by Super Bowl LIII at the latest,” he declared. “But I don’t know exactly when that will be, because I don’t understand Roman numerals.”

Pundits, meanwhile, speculated that the Super Bowl snub might be the beginning of the end for the Star-Spangled Banner.

“It’s hard to sing. Nobody knows what the words mean. And it has no beat, so you can’t even dance to it,” one observer said. “How about replacing it with a classic, like Hammer’s U Can’t Touch This? That should shut the Italians up.”

Now honestly, didn’t you KNOW that was a satirical piece as soon as you saw the title?

Some folks didn’t. See the comments on the original piece, and just for kicks, here are the best comments from the Facebook posting.

1. Gotta make sure the Muslims are not offended by our Star Spangled Banner.

2
. Time to boycott the Super Bowl by all Patriots!!????

3
. Taking God out of America, taking our history and heritage out of America………and we are letting it, allowing it to happen!!!!!!!!!??? This really makes me angry!!

4
. If Madonna there its an assault on Christians.BUT US will always put sports ahead of everything.

5
. The US is a boiled frog-we endorse and vote for what Caligula/Nero would have found repulsive. No decadent Roman nation or any other decadent people for example endorsed women in combat or homosexual marriage-the US is in the moral abyss-and getting much worse as we push the boundaries of sin.

6
. Always GREED with people. Should boycott.

7
. BOYCOTT Dodge trucks.

I didn’t list any names, it’s enough to know that some people are so trusting, they will read a story on the ‘net and believe EVERY word of it.

I mean, it must be true, it was on the ‘net.

I can’t believe the utter gullibility of some people, they will literally FALL for anything.

Of course the Colors were presented and Kelly Clarkson sang the National Anthem. There was not a doubt in the mind of ANY reasonably well read person that doesn’t rely on a satire blog or lame-assed social media for their news and current events.

Say, I have an Aunt that married a cocoa merchant from Liberia … recently he was killed in an invasion of Somali Zombies and now she has $200,000,000.00 that she needs moved to the USA so it can be invested in Solyndra stock.

Send me $25.00 CASH, I’ll give my Aunt your name and email address, she’ll get back to you as soon as possible and get you in on the ground floor … really. 😐

Yeah, people ARE that stupid!

    Holy cow.

I’m on cold meds (again!) and I saw through that before I finished the first line.

You are right - some people are just stupid.

  2. Hoosier Army Mom says:

Ohhhh geez!!! This is why libbers love to use Alinsky and get away with it. The gullibility runs amok. This is why I don’t spend too much time on Facebook these days. I freaks me out how many people don’t think this stuff through, they just react.

Sheer stupidity… I am amazed that so many actually fall for it, just because someone that’s a friend posted it, oh hell, it MUST be true…

A while back I posted that piece about the N. Korean mini-sub torpedoing the oil rig in the Gulf, you would have thought it was a LEAD STORY or something, people actually believed it was real, because, after all, they saw it on a blog on the ‘net…

And again, seriously, not EVERYTHING is about Libbers, the comments that I have listed are from a supposedly Conservative person and her friends… It’s not ALWAYS about politics…

  3. BobF says:

    It’s a wonder I didn’t receive a half dozen emails on this.

There are some people who want to believe stuff like this.

  4. Hoosier Army Mom says:

Let’s face it guys… people are a bit punch drunk these days. How many outrageously illegal (unconstitutional) things has Obama done since he went in office??? Stuff that if one had asked any one of us, even 10 years ago, if it could happen, we’d have gave them a big ole “Hell No”!!! I think some of these people are suffering from “Obama PTSD”. I seriously don’t remember so many, being so gullible before that asshat was sworn in.

    • TexasFred says:

That’s because you weren’t paying attention I guess… People have ALWAYS been that stupid… Seriously…

For some of these asshats, if breathing weren’t a natural reflex, if it required ANY thought process at all, they would DIE…

And seriously, Obama had NOTHING to do with this post or the one from the original source…

      • Hoosier Army Mom says:

OK Fred… maybe I just didn’t notice. Oh Lord… my faith in humanity will never be restored. LOL!!!!

  5. Katie says:

The National Anthem was sung, the flag was flown, there was a flyover by the planes and the NY Giants scored 21, the Patriots scored 17. One of the best endings of a football game ever!!!!!

  6. Bloviating Zeppelin says:

It was a Snooze Fest until the last five minutes. Giants winning? Very nice.

  7. mrchuck says:

The “dumbing down” of America is just about complete.
I wonder just how much dumber we as a Nation can get?
I expect this upcoming November election will actually tell us this.

The NFL reminds me of my Uncle who owned the cotton gin when I was a little boy.
He had several “big bucks”, as he called them, that would make these professional black linemen look small and weak.
No holds barred prizefights, anything goes,,, were held all over Texas and Louisiana, between cotton gin owners.
Huge crowds would be there, and with the local Sheriff “keeping the peace”.
My Uncle was part of this “competition”, and a winner.

I do see a comparison of this in our NFL,,,don’t you???

  8. NativeSon says:

Fred, I sent my $75.00 to your Aunt AND I still haven’t heard from her!!! Can you check with her and make sure she received it please?!?! That was the last money I have…

  9. Patrick Sperry says:

    What? People stuck on stupid..?

    Tell me it isn’t so!

    *ROARS LAUGHING!*

  10. Shady says:

Well Fred……I can’t just image that..(wink wink) …..as ole Forrest Gump would have said, “Stupid is as stupid does”……

  11. Chief says:

Don’t know who wrote this, but I totally agree. I wish some of these pop star divas would read this and take it to heart.
National Anthem at the Super Bowl - an editorial
    Our sentiments EXACTLY. AMEN!

“So, with all the kindness I can muster, I give this one piece of advice to the next pop star who is asked to sing the national anthem at a sporting event: save the vocal gymnastics and the physical gyrations for your concerts. Just sing this song the way you were taught to sing it in kindergarten - straight up, no styling. Sing it with the constant awareness that there are soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines watching you from bases and outposts all over the world. Don’t make them cringe with your self-centered ego gratification. Sing it as if you are standing before a row of 86-year-old WWII vets wearing their Purple Hearts, Silver Stars and flag pins on their cardigans and you want them to be proud of you for honoring them and the country they love - not because you want them to think you are a superstar musician. They could see that from the costumes, the makeup and the entourages. Sing “The Star Spangled Banner” with the courtesy and humility that tells the audience that it is about America , not you.”

If you agree, please pass this on. The entertainers need to get the message!

    • BobF says:

Exactly Chief. Nothing disgusts me more that to hear our National Anthem being sung like a swaying sick cow baying at the moon.
