Judge: Bring back federal assault weapons ban
“Congress must reinstate and toughen the ban on assault weapons and high-capacity magazines”
TUCSON, Ariz. — A federal judge who sentenced the man who shot former U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords said in an article published Friday that it’s time to bring back the federal assault weapons ban.
U.S. District Judge Larry Burns said in the opinion piece in the Los Angeles Times, “Congress must reinstate and toughen the ban on assault weapons and high-capacity magazines.”
His comments came on the same day that the National Rifle Association declared a no-retreat stance in the face of growing calls for gun control after the Connecticut shootings that claimed the lives of 26 children and school staff a week ago.
At a news conference in Washington, D.C., the nation’s largest gun rights lobby said guns and police officers in all American schools are what’s needed to stop the next killer “waiting in the wings.” SOURCE
I am of the opinion that U.S. District Judge Larry Burns is a bowl or 2 of tater salad short of a picnic. But I have to say this for him; unlike some writers of late, at least he called them high capacity MAGAZINES and not clips.

Burns, a San Diego-based judge, last month sentenced Jared Lee Loughner to seven consecutive life sentences plus 140 years in prison for the January 2011 shooting outside a Tucson supermarket that left six people dead and injured 13 people, including Giffords.
What kind of *bleeding heart* gives a psycho like Jared Lee Loughner 7 consecutive life sentences for killing 6 people in an act of cold-blooded murder? What prevented Burns from passing the DEATH PENALTY on a worthless slug of flesh like Loughner?
In Friday’s article, Burns wrote that during Loughner’s sentencing, “I also questioned the social utility of high-capacity magazines like the one that fed his Glock. And I lamented the expiration of the federal assault weapons ban in 2004, which prohibited the manufacture and importation of certain particularly deadly guns, as well as magazines that can hold more than 10 rounds of ammunition.
I have high capacity magazines for my pistols, not 30 round mags, but my XD-45 Tactical carries 13 rounds in the mag and 1 in the chamber for a total of 14 rounds, in MY hand. That doesn’t begin to illustrate the capability I have if carrying a few extra magazines of the same capacity should I lose my mind and decide to lash out at society.
I have to wonder though, is Judge Burns so ignorant regarding guns that he doesn’t realize that a 10 round mag only makes the user become even MORE proficient at rapid magazine changes? How long have we heard it said, “It’s not the SIZE that matters“?
“The ban wasn’t all that stringent — if you already owned a banned gun or high-capacity magazine you could keep it, and you could sell it to someone else — but at least it was something,” Burns added. This time, he said, “Don’t let people who already have them keep them. Don’t let ones that have already been manufactured stay on the market. I don’t care whether it’s called gun control or a gun ban. I’m for it.”
Well Judge Burns, I have a suggestion for you; COME AND TAKE THEM!
What Judge Burns suggests would result in a CIVIL WAR right here in the USA, and there won’t be a damned thing CIVIL about it.
I would venture to say that IF there were to ever be an order, Executive or otherwise, for Americans to give up their guns and magazines, or face confiscation, at least 75 of ALL Police and Military would stand with the American people. I would also guess that they would bring THEIR weapons WITH them.
ANY gun grab, of ANY KIND, will result in a civil war the likes of which we have never seen, and unlike the so-called civil wars in Libya and Syria, I honestly believe our Troops and Police won’t follow the orders of Barack Obama in such an action.
That’s MY opinion and it’s been formed by talking to many Officers all over the nation and U.S. troops all over the world.

Back when Obama was elected the first time, I said then he would eventually over reach. This will be the straw that puts the camel in traction!
The power hungry left cannot help themselves. Their thirst for power is exceeded only by their hate for anyone or anything that does not conform to their authoritarian elitism.
This whole gun control thing is going to get very dirty — very fast — with gun owners protecting the constitution.
Just a thought — Does the news media not understand that it is the Second Amendment that offers the ONLY protection for the First Amendment? Frankly, I am sick to death of the MsM acting as if they are the fourth branch of the government!
Just yesterday, I was sitting here at the keyboard with a brand new AR-15 in my lap. A beautiful weapon, finely balanced, and black as sin itself. I can’t wait to pop off a few rounds with it. Besides, I need the target practice. It has been awhile. In the coming months, I expect proficiency with firearms will be required.

In WWII, Korea, and Vietnam, GI’s using 45 automatics with their 7-round magazines did a pretty good job. Then they went to the high capacity Beretta 9mm’s but now the Marines are going back to the 1911 style 45 with its smaller magazine capacity; Special Forces still use them. Maybe they know something that everybody here knows but the left doesn’t. It’s not so much the number of bullets but the placement of said bullets.
The downfall of our nation is going to be liberal lawyers in black robes failure to carry out their sworn oath to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States. More so than legislatures and the president, is their job more sacred because they are the “final authority” of interpreting the Constitution. Their call is to interpret the Constitution as it’s written, not how they or their political backers want it.
