Reid bill would require background checks to purchase explosives

Harry ReidSenate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) on Tuesday introduced a bill that would require background checks to be run on anyone buying explosive powder, a reaction to last week’s Boston Marathon bombing.

Reid introduced the bill, S. 792, for Sen. Frank Lautenberg (D-N.J.), who has been out sick for much of the year. But in a press statement, Lautenberg said the Boston bombing shows that background checks are needed for explosive materials.

“It defies common sense that anyone, even a terrorist, can walk into a store in America and buy explosive powders without a background check or any questions asked,” Lautenberg said Tuesday. “Requiring a background check for an explosives permit is a small price to pay to ensure the safety of our communities.

Under current law, people can buy up to 50 pounds of explosive “black powder” with no background check, and can buy unlimited amounts of other explosive powders, such as “black powder substitute” and “smokeless powder.” SOURCE

Sen. Reid and Sen. Lautenberg are BOTH far Left, freedom bashing, anti-gun MORONS that haven’t got 10 working brain cells between them.

Sure, let’s have a background check on gun powder. Why not? It makes as much sense as the recently defeated *universal background checks* for gun buyers.

Let me educate the good Senators, and the Libtards that STILL read here; if a person is going to make a bomb they don’t have to go to ANY store to BUY gunpowder. It doesn’t work that way, not in the REAL world, but Reid and Lautenberg are so far removed from reality it’s unbelievable.

Some of you reading this know me, in real life, some of you don’t. I have visited some of you in your homes and you have visited me in mine. Let me make this abundantly clear, even if I have NEVER been to your home I can guarantee, beyond a shadow of a doubt, I can come into YOUR home, use nothing more than ingredients found in YOUR pantry, under YOUR kitchen or bathroom sink and in YOUR garage, or on your back porch, and I can make you a bomb that will do a hell of a lot more damage than the Boston bombers did.

It’s called Improvised Explosives; our troops have faced many IEDs in Iraq, Afghanistan and other parts of the world. Most of those were made from explosive munitions that are by-products of WAR.

If a person has the *know how* they can improvise with what is found at home and in garden centers, and with the inclusion of some scrap metal, nails, what have you into the mix, an extremely deadly and destructive explosive device can be fashioned, and NO, I am NOT going into details regarding the ingredients of the explosives.

Aren’t you glad I’m one of *The Good Guys*? :P

It would also let the attorney general stop the sale of explosives if a background check shows the applicant is a known or suspected terrorist, and if there is a belief the explosives will be used for terrorism.

Would it stop the U.S. Attorney General from engaging in *GUN RUNNING*? Just askin’.

It would also require a permit to make homemade explosives, and direct the government to study how to better trace the use of explosive powders.

A permit to make homemade explosives? Seriously?

Just how is the Attorney General or any of his DHS dumbasses going to enforce THAT little *feel good* motion?

Think about this: Boston bombing suspects did not have valid handgun licenses.

These clowns were already on the DHS radar, they were KNOWN, yet they had GUNS, used them, killed a Police Officer, made bombs, killed and maimed American citizens when they set the bombs off and yet they didn’t have *gun permits*.

Ladies and Gentlemen, we live in a nation that is run by MORONS, starting with the MORON in Chief and rolling downhill through his entire incompetent administration.

How much longer do we allow this BS to continue?

The only ‘background’ check needed is to insure full insertion of the gun powder in Reid’s ass before detonation.

Fred, I’m sure that both of us could manufacture enough mustard gas to be a hazard to both ourselves and others before blowing something up that was really precious to someone. Not saying I ever would you understand, just that it is possible using items we both have in our homes and/or garages.

This is getting as silly as not being able to bring shampoo onto an airplane.

    Keep your powder dry,

When I was in Robbery, I was also a part of EOD for six months, until I came to my senses. What Fred says is absolutely correct. Plus, as the idiot Reid likely does NOT know, at least in Fornicalia, you have to be a registered blaster to purchase the Big Boy Commercial Stuff. That aside, all you have to do is check the internet. I still have my tired copy of The Blaster’s Handbook.

Those who would give up liberty for safety deserve neither.

After Timothy McVeigh blew up the Alfred P. Murrah building in OKC, my Dad made the comment that he had enough fertilizer in his barn to blow up half of Fort Smith. He had it for legitimate purposes.

At what point do we say enough is enough and stop the knee jerk reactions every time some evil person does something evil?

I recall years ago when buying large amounts of sugar, it had to be reported to the Feds because it could be used for moonshine. Always the Feds have the answer. Guess I have dated myself!

  7. BobF says:

I wonder if Dingy Harry knows that the dust of flour used for baking bread and cookies is explosive? Maybe he needs to institute background checks on housewives buying the flour?

  8. mrchuck says:

The news today said the 2 bombers bought BIG fireworks up in New Hampshire, where stands have them.
Fireworks stands in Texas have the same stuff.
    Texans love fireworks.
Our National Anthem words bespeak of them.
These 2 brothers used what is available to the public.
I am glad these two Muslims were caught, and one killed.
This living younger brother, should be waterboarded by experts, till he gives it all up.
