Obama notes split over Syria attack, plans speech
ST. PETERSBURG, Russia (AP) – President Barack Obama acknowledged deep divisions at home and abroad on Friday over his call for military action in Syria – and conceded the possibility he’ll fail to sway the American public. He refused to say whether he would act without passage of congressional authorization for a strike in response to chemical weapons use.
Setting the stage for an intense week of lobbying in Washington over the strike resolution, Obama said he planned to make his case to the American people in an address Tuesday night. SOURCE
Barack Hussein Obama can *lobby until hell freezes over and I don’t believe he will EVER convince the people of this nation that attacking Syria is the right thing to do.
Oh sure, there will be some weak-minded Democrats that will tout Obama for his *courage* to stand against Syria and Bashir al-Assad, they will call Obama a champion for humanity or some such tripe, and their will even be a few thought to be Republicans, think Boehner, Graham and McCain, that will side with Obama and sing his praises, but these guys aren’t Republicans, they aren’t even the dreaded RINO, they are nothing more than Dem Lite, they just haven’t taken up the mantle … yet.
“It’s conceivable at the end of the day I don’t persuade a majority of the American people that it’s the right thing to do,” Obama acknowledged. “And then each member of Congress is going to have to decide.”
Now Obama throws another question mark into the fray.
If Congress doesn’t approve an attack, no matter how limited, will Obama go ahead and take action on his own, and if he does, will Congress have the courage to STOP him or to prosecute him for illegal actions?
Obama, in his post-summit news conference, seemed to be feeling the burden of the challenge he faces in persuading the American public, the international community and Congress to back military action. But he expressed confidence the American people and lawmakers, weary after long-running wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, would listen.
“I trust my constituents want me to offer my best judgment. That’s why they elected me. That’s why they re-elected me,” he said.
Mr. Obama, I am going to do something that MANY in this nation are afraid to do; I am going to tell you the truth.
Your constituents are MORONS!
You were elected by welfare slugs, ghetto rats, reverse racists and the most incredible group of low information voters in the history of this nation. YOU were elected because YOU promised your constituents FREE phones, FREE healthcare and God only knows what other enticements, all for free, well, free to them maybe, but the working people of America are being taxed to death to pay off the people that elected you on YOUR *hope and change* line of BS.
You Sir couldn’t find your ass with both hands and a set of directions and your constituents are even dumber than that!
Although surveys showed a significant number of House Republicans and Democrats opposed to military action or leaning against it, officials in the leadership insisted it was premature to say the resolution could not be approved. At this stage, just a third of the House and Senate have participated in classified briefings and Obama is still reaching out to lawmakers.
Still, final passage rests on significant votes from House Republicans and Democrats, and the administration is struggling to reach those numbers.
I am not at all unhappy with my Senators, Sen. Ted Cruz is hard core and I have NO problem with that, I have had *issues* with Sen. John Cornyn and what I see as a weak Conservative stance from him on occasion but for the most part, Cornyn is one of the good guys.
Rep. Pete Sessions, my Congressional representative, is one of the smartest men I know. He is attuned to his District and has always responded to me when I had issues with something he did or said and we always come to an amicable agreement, sometimes he agrees with me, sometimes I agree with him, but regardless, we talk and we listen to each other’s views.
All three of the above mentioned Gentlemen have indicated that they will vote against Obama on this Syria action, as have several other Texas Congressional representatives and I have great respect for them.
I hope they ALL stand as they have indicated; you see, the people of Texas are really *funny* about a man and his *word*. It’s an *old west* thing, a man is as good as his word, and if a man goes back on his word he is not to ever be trusted again.
Texas voters have long memories too. Just sayin’…
