Colorado shooting hits state still trying to recover

CENTENNIAL, Colo. (AP) – A Colorado high school student with an apparent grudge against a teacher wounded a classmate with a shotgun before killing himself, chilling a state that’s still trying to make sense of mass shootings at Columbine High School and an Aurora movie theater. SOURCE

Arapaho High School
Yet another senseless act of violence committed in a school, with a gun.

So far the anti-gun crowd has NOT come out *blasting*, pardon the pun, about how *guns are evil* and how *if no one HAD a gun…* and the nonsense you hear from them at a time like this.

The GUN did NOT do this, the GUN is an inanimate object that is incapable of acting on its own. In every case of gun violence there is a HUMAN factor that plays the main role in the equation, but for some reason THE GUN always gets the blame.

I don’t know why these young people in Colorado have engaged is so much gun violence, and in this case we may never know, at least not with any certainty; the shooter took his reasons to the grave with him.

I have my own opinion as to the *why* in so many of these cases but that idea may not be 100% accurate. I am not a psychologist and I don’t have the ability to fully, and correctly analyze the issues at hand, but I do have *opinions*.

Personally, I believe that the incredible amount of death and mayhem our children witness on a daily basis in the television shows they watch, when coupled with the mind-numbing simulated violence of their video games, along with the dismal reports that they see if they watch news programing may be, at least partially at the root of the problem.

That theory may not have played into the thinking of Karl Pierson at all. According to this next segment Pierson was a good student and an athlete but he had some strong political beliefs.

Arapahoe High gunman held strong political beliefs, classmates said

“I was wondering to all the neoclassicals and neoliberals, why isn’t the market correcting itself?” he wrote. “If the invisible hand is so strong, shouldn’t it be able to overpower regulations?”

Pierson also appears to mock Republicans on another Facebook post, writing “you republicans are so cute” and posting an image that reads: “The Republican Party: Health Care: Let ‘em Die, Climate Change: Let ‘em Die, Gun Violence: Let ‘em Die, Women’s Rights: Let ‘em Die, More War: Let ‘em Die. Is this really the side you want to be on?”

Carl Schmidt and Brendon Mendelson, both seniors at Arapahoe High, knew Pierson. They said he had political views that were “outside the mainstream,” but they did not elaborate. SOURCE

At the time of this writing I have found no real references to his belief about guns but his classmates have told the media that Pierson’s thinking was *outside the mainstream*.

I have NO idea what the *mainstream* mindset of a high school student in Colorado might be. It was also said that Pierson was, “was an outspoken kid about what he believed and a good political thinker.”

Obviously his political thoughts didn’t run in the Conservative direction.

And then you have people like this idiot.

Seagoville man arrested for threats towards high school students

SEAGOVILLE, TX — A 21-year-old man was arrested Friday for making terroristic threats regarding at “mass murder” at Seagoville High School.

Jeffrey Holmes was taken into custody for a Facebook post saying he was “homicidal and suicidal” and there “might just be a mass murder going to take place” that will be “worse than Virginia Tech.” SOURCE

There’s always some MORON that had *Mommy* or *Daddy* issues, or something.

We had one like that here in Rowlett a while back. He went on Facebook posting pics of himself with a gun but posted accompanying text that stated that he was not *right*, his thinking was messed up and he felt like going out and shooting people.

In all probability he was just running his mouth, looking for some *attention* I believe.

Well, he GOT some attention; the Rowlett Police picked him up, interviewed him and turned him over to some sort of psychiatric clinic that admitted him for 2 or 3 days. They kept him until it was *supposedly* determined that the guy wasn’t a *danger*, he was just goofy.

In any case, once an online threat or a public threat is made, it is best to let the Police know of that threat and let them handle the situation. When lives are at stake you just can’t take any chances.

The bottom line to all of this is; people like Karl Pierson not only hurt their victims, the victims family and their community, they hurt LEGAL and SANE American gun owners.

Libs, anti-gun groups and bleeding-heart MORONS hate guns and they blame guns, as well as LEGAL and SANE gun owners for every occurrence of gun violence in this nation. The left doesn’t realize that those acts of violence are committed by an incredibly small percentage of LEGAL American gun owners, and most likely ones that have lost their sanity. I DO believe that there is a gross loss of sanity in ANYONE that would take up a gun to do evil and commit murder, I just don’t see that as the action of a person that is in command of themselves and their thinking.

Criminals don’t give a damn about numbers and they don’t get their guns at a gun shop. The Libbers need to pull their heads OUT of their collective asses and take a breath of FRESH AIR and take a look at reality.

The fact of the matter is this; LEGAL and SANE gun owners don’t go around killing people and insane people are NOT supposed to be in possession of guns. Maybe someone in the insane persons family needs to make the call to authorities and throw them a *heads up*.

I think you identified the problem as a society whose culture, films, television, music, and even news is saturated with violence that includes gun violence. Even so, there are 80 million US gun owners who never harm anyone. The fact that the Colorado murders and the one a year ago in Newtown, CT were committed by youths (who often have mental problems) says more about this kind of random killing than anything else.

    • TexasFred says:

Agreed, but as soon as you mention the idea of some kind of mental evaluation for persons to own guns the entire Second Amendment crowd goes ballistic, so to speak…

It’s against the law for *crazies* to have guns, BUT, just like with criminals, crazies can get guns too, just not through the normal sources…

So, where do you draw the line and not infringe?? That’s a hell of a question and one I just can’t answer..

  2. DrummerXD says:

I would think that it starts with the entitlement society. No score sports. Trophies for all. Media and schools indoctrinating that everyone just deserves what they want. Combine this with the Movie and game industries glorifying violence and you are sitting on a powder keg that can be set off by a real world ‘No”. I haven’t even brought up the lack of God in these kids lives. Not an easy fix.

  3. TexasFred says:

I can’t argue so much as one word of this one…

I see it too, Mommie can’t control the kids so it MUST BE because they have ADHD or some such crap, so the kids go to the doctor, they get some of the aforementioned drugs, the kids either ZONE OUT or go bat-shit crazy..

Damned good comment Buzz, and now I have said something that’s been on MY mind for quite a while…

As long as we have pedestrians, people will be hit by cars. As long as we have cars, we will have fatal accidents. Likewise for boats, jet skis, motorcycles, skateboards, small planes etc.. These things happen in a free society. Some things are preventable, some not. Hence the need for laws. The people who obey the law should not be seen as potential threats to society. Throw in drugs and alcohol and the laws go out the window.

  5. Mike Flynn says:

I agree with most of what has been said about why and the fact that there are many, many contributing factors, but strongly feel there are two reasons that are most important

#1) break down of the traditional family. With only one parent on site, there is by the situation itself, little supervision. Even if the family stays intact the father or mother are many times working 2 jobs just to make ends meet and again little supervision. The other part of this is that parents are beginning (I feel) to stray from there normal roles and allow to much freedom to mere children. The parents are busy finding out ‘who they are’ and seeking pleasures they have coming and the kids’ll be ok…..

#2) the sad but rapid deteoration of Judeo Christian religion/values importance in everyday American life. This in itself is frightening to me……we see it every day, how Chirstian life style is mocked, belittled or down right forbidden…….as I have said here before, this country is rapidly spiraling downward…..and because of the universal lack of morals, integrity and/or sense of honor……nothing is sacred – these two things, coupled with huge finanancial debt will, I am afraid, bring down our country.

  6. Culture has a great deal to do with this. Kids believe they can hit the RESET button. They can’t. They have no sense of mortality. Ever since Columbine the media — at least in the minds of younger shooters — glorifies the results of Active Shooters.

With single parent families, mostly women, there is little time to actually pay attention to and monitor kids.

Also, as OregonBuzz points out, male children are first to be dosed with drugs — Ritalin and others — because when young boys exceed the demure and quiet envelope accorded to young girls, teachers don’t wish to be bothered. In concert with the mixed messages young boys receive growing up in the US. “Why aren’t you more like a girl?” “Why aren’t you more like a boy?”

There are many, many more factors.

    One final note:

Isn’t it interesting how recent mass shooters have been political Leftists and NOT from the conservative side?

I can’t say why people do these horrible acts but I can say that the Libs will never stop breathing the air in their ass. Their heads are there to stay and it is a rare Lib who has the courage and brains to admit that he or she has been wrong.

”Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.” – John Adams

Communism/Atheism continues to raise its head in our beloved country.

When these Communists/Atheists infiltrated our education system from elementary to university level, infiltrated our Media from local to national, infiltrated our government from local to national, infiltrated our churches and took God out of the schools, out of Media, and everywhere else they could remove Him, children no longer received a moral upbringing, the moral upbringing this country was built on. Children no longer were taught a Christian foundation based on longtime truths. No longer understood what love was or where it came from. To have value for a fellow human’s life, one must be capable of loving another human. Communists/Atheists do not teach or want people to love and worship Jesus Christ. Communists/Atheists teach to hate Christians and worship Government.

One can not love or place a value on human life when they have been enslaved and indoctrinated by Communism.

    It is not the guns.

It is the Communism/Atheism growing in our society. It is the people looking to Government for all the answers instead of looking to God. Past generations who built this great nation looked to God. When people started looking to Government and when Communism’s roots grew deep, and into all major areas of our lives, our country changed…for the worse.

The brainwashed progressive Communist was not a Christian. He was a young Red Communist who was indoctrinated by the Communists/Atheists who influenced his life in his school and through the media.

We are witnessing the greatest Christian nation ever created falling and the beginnings of a new Communist Dictatorship forming while our military sit, and the people just keep talking and keep watching.

Our founders did not sit, talk, and watch.

“So, where do you draw the line and not infringe?? That’s a hell of a question and one I just can’t answer..” – TexasFred

Only Communists infringe. A moral and religious people do not need their God given liberty infringed upon. Maybe the above helped you find your answer.

  9. BobF says:

Sensationalizing these shootings by the news media is turning these shooters into cult heroes to the deranged. People know all about Lounghner, Holmes, Lanza, Harris, Klebold, and the others. They know their history, family, background, beliefs and other information about them. These are names that will be remembered and recalled 100 years from now. Ever time one of these shootings takes place, there’s some sick SOB watching the news and saying to himself. “I can do better; they’ll remember me”.

Back when most of us here were kids, we bought toy guns to grade school and as we got older, many of us probably brought our .22’s and shotguns to school. We played cowboys and Indians along with cops and robbers in the playgrounds. If we didn’t have a toy guy, our fingers worked great. Today, little kids get expelled for bringing a toy gun to school. They get suspended for drawing pictures of guns, eating a pop tart that looks like a gun, and shooting an imaginary arrow at a classmate while playing cowboys and Indians…I’m talking 5, 6, and 7 year old kids. It seems that the more they try to keep all mention of guns out of schools, the more we have incidents like these mass shootings. And, to go along with this, experts are apparently baffled with the amount of bullying taking place in schools. It seems that the more anti-bullying efforts they put forth, the more bullying takes place.
