DC bill would pay people stipends not to commit crimes

DC bill would pay people stipends not to commit crimes

WASHINGTON (AP) — They say crime doesn’t pay, but that might not be entirely true in the District of Columbia as lawmakers look for ways to discourage people from becoming repeat offenders.

The D.C. Council voted unanimously Tuesday to approve a bill that includes a proposal to pay residents a stipend not to commit crimes. It’s based on a program in Richmond, California, that advocates say has contributed to deep reductions in crime there. SOURCE

Only in places like Washington, DC or Richmond, CA could some ridiculous BULL like this even be remotely considered a *good thing*.

Under the bill, city officials would identify up to 200 people a year who are considered at risk of either committing or becoming victims of violent crime. Those people would be directed to participate in behavioral therapy and other programs. If they fulfill those obligations and stay out of trouble, they would be paid.

The bill doesn’t specify the value of the stipends, but participants in the California program receive up to $9,000 per year.

Wait… What??

“Up to 200 people a year who are considered at risk of either committing or becoming victims of violent crime” they say? There is a stipend for not becoming a victim of violent crime too?

Whoever thought this up has got to be one STUPID SOB.

If you think you’re going to be a victim there is no amount of *stipend* that can stop you from your *victimhood* other than using the *stipend* to buy a quality concealed carry handgun.

That is how you also STOP these slugs of humanity from committing acts of violence too; 2 rounds to the chest, works miracles and it’s a lot cheaper than $9,000 a year too.

Councilmember Kenyan McDuffie, a Democrat who wrote the legislation, said it was part of a comprehensive approach to reducing violent crime in the city, which experienced a 54 percent increase in homicides last year. Homicides and violent crime are still down significantly since the 2000s, and even more so since the early 1990s when the District was dubbed the nation’s “murder capital.”

OK, herein lies what I like to call *clues*.

Kenyan McDuffie? McDuffie? Really?

Must be a *Black Irish* Democrat. Just sayin’.

McDuffie argued that spending $9,000 a year in stipends “pales in comparison” to the cost of someone being victimized, along with the costs of incarcerating the offender.

You see, that is the solution to every problem in America IF you happen to be a Democrat or a Bernie Sanders Socialist; you throw money at the problem, preferably someone else’s money, but I digress.

Paying a criminal to *be good* is like telling a child, a spoiled brat, how you will reward them with candy or some such IF they will be GOOD.

You don’t reform a criminal by rewarding them, you reform a criminal by either locking them up forever or, a much cheaper solution; shooting the bastard and being done with it.

Democrats, or, if you prefer, Socialists, are the ruination of America, and it’s getting worse everyday!

Huh. I wonder if I moved there I could file for back stipends? You know, for not committing crimes on all the stupid politicians that seem to run rampant in that area …

  2. Dick Robie says:

Well, what do you expect from a bunch of Socialists. If the Government would wake up and get rid of the rules, regulations and stupid laws that drove jobs out of the USA people could go to work rather than be on the taxpayer dole and have nothing to do but get into trouble are cause trouble or murder or whatever. The root of the murder and high crime rate rests in Congress and the Executive Branch. I get so pissed sometimes I cannot even talk rationally about it. And it is a non-partisan issue.

      Yep, but not non…bi-partisan.
Did you ever make home movies with a Keystone camera and show on Keystone projector, or other brands too. Remember the little slots in the film where the gear moved the film through the projector to be shown on the screen? Sometimes the slots got ripped and the movie stalled. A stalled film could burn too.
Back before Clinton and Perot were household names a AFSCME person in Florida explained to me what was going on. Too much for a blog comment. Let’s just say when from back then and I moved the film past the ripped slots to good slots and the movie started…we are in today.

Will they be paying taxes on their “Stipend”? So instead of the individual committing a crime, it will be the government stealing from law abiding job holding citizens.

What a novel and humane solution to reduce crime and poverty in one fell swoop. Let’s issue SNAP type cards to those fitting the criminal, potential criminal and potential victim profiles and load up the cards with $9,000. When the balance falls below a specified dollar amount the card is automatically replenished. Along with welfare, SS benefits, free healthcare and free housing all illegals would automatically be registered upon showing up at the polls and voting for any democrat. The gentle giant of Ferguson, Missouri would be alive today had he presented his Violent Criminal SNAP card to the store owner instead of stealing from him and beating him up.

kinda like a ransome only different.
