Federal court rejects new Texas voter photo ID law

WASHINGTON (AP) — A federal court on Thursday rejected a Texas law that would require voters to present photo IDs to election officials before being allowed to cast ballots in November.

A three-judge panel in Washington unanimously ruled that the law imposes “strict, unforgiving burdens on the poor” and noted that racial minorities in Texas are more likely to live in poverty.

The decision involves an increasingly contentious political issue: a push, largely by Republican-controlled legislatures and governors’ offices, to impose strict identification requirements on voters. Texas’ voter ID rules, approved in 2011, had been widely cheered by conservatives statewide.

Republicans around the country are aggressively seeking similar requirements in the name of stamping out voter fraud. Democrats, with support from a number of studies, say fraud at the polls is largely non-existent and that Republicans are simply trying to disenfranchise minorities, poor people and college students — all groups that tend to back Democrats.

I wonder, does this Federal panel know that the Civil War was fought over the issue of States Rights? I seriously doubt it.

This voter photo ID decision is, without a doubt, the biggest BS news story of the day. The decision is defined by these criteria: *the law imposes “strict, unforgiving burdens on the poor” and noted that racial minorities in Texas are more likely to live in poverty.*

Strict and unforgiving burdens on the poor? Seriously?

The *poor* have an ID when they cash their welfare checks, buy beer, wine and liquor, hopefully when they drive their car, when they are admitted to the County Hospital for FREE medical care and the like, well, FREE for them. So, where exactly is this ‘strict and unforgiving burdens on the poor’?

Voter ID disenfranchises minorities, poor people and college students? Again we see another reason to call BS on this ruling. The next line in that particular sentence is the qualifier; ‘all groups that tend to back Democrats’.

A valid picture ID would stop, or at least slow down the voter fraud that Democrats are so well known for; VOTE THE DEAD has long been the rule in Democratic states and localities.

In the Texas case, the Justice Department called several lawmakers, all of them Democrats, who said they detected a clear racial motive in the push for the voter ID law. Lawyers for Texas argued that the state was simply tightening its laws. Texas called experts who demonstrated that voter ID laws had a minimal effect on turnout. Republican lawmakers testified that the legislation was the result of a popular demand for more election protections.

The Democrats threw THE RACE CARD! How original.

With the Democrats it is ALL about RACISM, with that racism being on the part of the GOP and Conservatives. Everyone on the RIGHT is a RACIST, no matter what their actual RACE or skin color might be. If you don’t like Barack Hussein Obama, YOU are a RACIST.

The ruling comes two days after a separate federal three-judge panel ruled that Texas’ Republican dominated state Legislature did not draw new congressional and state Senate district maps “without discriminatory purposes.”

“In a matter of two days, the state of Texas has had its dirty laundry aired out across the national stage,” said Democratic state Rep. Trey Martinez Fisher, chairman of the Mexican American Legislative Conference. “This deals with the despicable issues of discrimination, voter suppression, these are things that we’re not proud of.”

And there you have it, Republicans in Texas are RACISTS. Some judicial panel and a bunch of left-wing Democrats said so. I guess it must be true.

I’m got to to say, and I don’t giving a DAMN who likes it or doesn’t; these loony leftist Democrats and every other form of libber garbage that keep calling us RACISTS, keep on! Soon you’re going to find out that your RACE CARD has been so over played that when a REAL racial issue DOES turn up, you’re going to be like the boy that cried *WOLF*.

Waaa. Did he get his widdle butt spanked?

I heard the Texas law is very similar to the Indiana law the Supreme Court upheld.

In most states, to register to vote, you have to show photo ID. How can you have photo ID to register and not have photo ID to vote? Liberal lawyers in black robes are going to be the downfall of this nation. We can vote politicians out of office but not Federal judges. Something needs to change in this country.

I couldn’t agree more Bob, on ALL counts…

      • Right Handed Cowboy says:

Well Fred, as you well know I was a Police Officer damn near 30 years, and I along with other officers SWORE to uphold all the laws and to DEFEND our constitution against all enemies foreign and domestic.

We have an enemy and he sits in the WHITE HOUSE! If this enemy is re-elected we have no one to blame except those bastard fools who vote him back office.

“We can only know that their is no choice because one of two things will happen, if we don’t lead, either no one will lead and there will be chaos or someone will fill the vacuum who does not share our values; My fellow Americans we do not have a choice, we can not be reluctant to lead and you can not LEAD from behind!” (Condoleezza Rice former SECRETARY OF STATE.)

She is an exceptional lady, and she DRILLED BHO with the above quote. It is now up to “WE THE PEOPLE” to keep doing what we are doing, and keep the pressure on and keep getting the word put. Obama must go.

Went to see the movie “2016″ yesterday to get out of the heat. Reenforced my belief that Obama is indeed an enemy of this nation and needs to be defeated. As for the election, indelible ink worked in Iraq, lets see if that is racist and unconstitutional. Need some that won’t wash off for a month. Don’t think there would be any corpses with purple fingers.

Why is it that I needed to present a photo ID to get a box of cold medicine that until a decade ago was an over-the-counter drug and yet don’t need to show ID to vote? Where is the logic in that?

    • BobF says:

Katie, here’s the reason why liberals don’t want anyone to have to show ID. My mom is in the hospital and will most likely not be able to vote. My sister could take her voter registration card and says she’s her mother and vote in her place. Now, my sister is a Conservative and would do no such thing but if she was a flaming liberal, she’d do it in a heartbeat.

A few years back, when I went to vote, I noticed my deceased wife’s name still on the voter registration rolls. I pointed it out to them and they annotated it and I haven’t seen it on since. A liberal seeing that would find her voter registration card, give it to another female liberal, and have her vote in his deceased wife’s place. Liberals have no honor or integrity when it comes to voting.

    • TexasFred says:

Exactly right… I go to Walgreens to get my Sudafed and have to show an ID, and without that ID I don’t get it…

This voter ID thing is pure BULLSHIT! And the Dems know it too..

      • BobF says:

You can bet those “poor minorities” have no problem producing ID to get their prescriptions.

Them Federal judges said racial minorities in Texas are more likely to live in poverty. That sure sounds like a racist statement to me.

  3. The BoBo says:

I was dumbfounded when I read that verdict earlier - as with you - my first thought was how can requiring ID be a burden to the poor and minorities when they need ID to get their benefits? This makes absolutely no sense to me. I hope the state appeals it. There are many states in this country that have constitutionally valid voter ID requirements. I don’t know why your state is so different that these judges decided yours is a burden whereas other states it is not. Freakin’ crazy.

  4. Texasperated says:

I’m virtually certain that Texas AG Greg Abbott will take this to the SCOTUS if at all possible; especially given the fact that the Indiana law has been upheld.

    Keep your powder dry

  5. Cary says:

Aren’t these the same Union-lovin’ thugs who won’t let you vote at a Union election without showing ID?

They don’t have any problem disenfranchising their own, do they?

  6. crunchman says:

Gee, our Tennessee voter ID laws didn’t seem to make a difference. The state had a large turnout for the primaries and I never heard or saw any bad news about the IDs. When the law was passed, there was the usual Libtard and Democrap whining and flashing of the race card, but guess what…the voters called upon their state reps and congressmen/women and it was passed by a resounding majority. Maybe Texas needs to look back to the mother state and take some lessons.

  7. mrchuck says:

Even the Demorats know that their “race card they carry and use”, has their photo and date of birth on it!
