Obama to send up to 300 military advisers to Iraq

(Reuters) - President Barack Obama said on Thursday the United States would send up to 300 military advisers to support Iraqi forces confronting an al Qaeda-inspired insurgency and was prepared to take targeted military action if it was necessary.

But the U.S. president, speaking to a news conference after meeting with his national security team, insisted: “American combat troops are not going to be fighting in Iraq again.”

“We do not have the ability to simply solve this problem by sending in tens of thousands of troops and committing the kinds of blood and treasure that has already been expended in Iraq,” he said. “Ultimately, this is something that is going to have to be solved by the Iraqis.”

Obama said the military advisers would support Iraqi security forces and create joint operation centers in Baghdad and northern Iraq to share intelligence and coordinate planning to confront the insurgents. SOURCE

Part of what Barack Hussein Obama makes perfect sense, “We do not have the ability to simply solve this problem by sending in tens of thousands of troops and committing the kinds of blood and treasure that has already been expended in Iraq,”, I can’t fault so much as one word in that particular sentence.

Then we read this, “the military advisers would support Iraqi security forces and create joint operation centers in Baghdad and northern Iraq to share intelligence and coordinate planning to confront the insurgents.”

Didn’t we already spend a great deal of time and money training the Iraqi military to do just that BEFORE we left Iraq the first time?

1st Rule of foreign policy

I had a real numbskull try to challenge me in comments on FOX News when I said that sending in 300 troops was nothing more than a suicide mission. This brilliant Obama lover proceeded to tell me that we are NOT sending in troops, we’re sending in advisers and went on to tell me that I was a moron that needed to learn how to read.

I despise stupid people, and I have to guess that this guy was one VERY stupid person.

He actually didn’t understand that *military advisers* are TROOPS, generally very well trained troops, Special Operations troops that have the ability to pull off miracles in an instant, but 300 U.S. troops in Iraq isn’t a drop in the bucket in the grand scheme of things.

I have stated many times; we have the most well trained troops in the world, our Spec/Ops guys are 2nd to none, and they will go anywhere they are told to go, confront any enemy they are told to fight and will make a good showing in doing so.

Call them what you will, I have complete and total faith in our troops/advisers, it is nothing more than semantics, but I still believe that sending a force of only 300 U.S. troops/advisers into Iraq, regardless the mission statement, is a suicide mission.

The Obama White House couldn’t get desperately needed help to the compound in Benghazi; will they be able to get vital support and/or backup to these men if the need were to arise?

These are the people we’re supposed to *save* and teach to fight. Well, here’s the truth; these are the COWARDS that threw down their weapons, shed their uniforms and ran like the cowardly DOGS they are.

We’re supposed to feel sorry for them? I don’t think so…

As I see it Fred, the administration and many in congress are committed to seeing the sunni sect (brotherhood) come out on top. The Saudis are sunni Wahabbi sect and will never get along with the shia, even though they may agree to a truce of some sort, only to begin hostilities when they feel strong enough to wind up the winner after a long enough pause to regain strength. People in positions of government are ignorant of how the muzz think and that is the whole problem . They think that they think like we do. That could not be further from the truth. These are very sick people. They have been following an evil set of rule for 1400 yrs.. You cannot reason with insane people and there are enough of them that participate in active jihad to cause serious problems for us in the West. A true clash of civilizations.

Why 300? Reminds me of the Battle of Thermopylae - 300 Spartans attempted the impossible. And it was impossible. Time to hang it up.

The first time I heard the term “military advisors” it was JFK and LBJ using it in regard to the Vietnam War and we all know how that ended.
