McCain Dismisses Drop in Polls
June 25th, 2007 . by TexasFredGREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) - Republican presidential candidate John McCain on Monday dismissed polls that show him slipping into single digits, arguing that his campaign is going through the typical ups and downs and will be fine this fall.
In an interview with The Associated Press, the Arizona senator also defended his support for a bipartisan immigration bill, a stance that has undercut his bid in early voting South Carolina.
The top Republican on the Senate Armed Services Committee acknowledged that his backing for the Iraq war has hurt his candidacy elsewhere in the country.
“I’ve got to do what’s right,” McCain told the AP. “In South Carolina, the war doesn’t hurt me as much as in other parts of the country. It has hurt my candidacy.”
McCain campaigned in South Carolina, which holds its GOP primary Feb. 2. He also raised money with Saturday’s second-quarter deadline fast approaching and picked up the endorsement of Greenville, S.C., Mayor Knox White.

McCain is a waste of good air, I don’t know how the good people of Arizona can in good conscience keep sending this dingle ball back to Washington as their Senator…

Ah, Texas Fred sees the obvious. McCain is a man past his time. And if he was as smart as he wants us to think he is, he would have known it. Voting for McCain who doesn’t seem to know or care how Americans feel about illegal immigration is like voting for a woman who wants us to think she is soooo smart but is too stupid to know her husband was cheating on her in the very house she lived in.
Fred, you and I don’t disagree on much but I have to take exception with this one. Now you may be right and John McCain may be a loser in that he doesn’t win a single primary or much less the Republican Presidential Nomination. According to the article he only had 85 people at a $500 a plate fundraiser. My guess is that Obama would have had 1000. Personally, I am not going to vote for that ‘winner’ and I doubt you will either.
However, I have a tough time calling a veteran navy pilot who spent 5 and a half years in the Hanoi Hilton a loser. I have a tough time calling a man who when offered release by the Viet Cong and refused, a loser. I know I couldn’t have survived it but I guess that makes me different than my fellow conservatives who are attacking Senator McCain now. I am sure they all would be happy and able to go through life having aides put on their jackets and comb their hair because of the injuries they suffered while being tortured. Or maybe they can get the people who cut their lawns and clean their houses while they blog about illegal immigration to do that for them as well.
I agree that the current immigration bill sucks. It just sucks less than anything anyone else has come up with.
I will support whatever Republican gets the nomination. Senator McCain has been in the Senate and has had to make the tough choices. Not always popular…not always right. But all in all…he is the best of the bunch.

Well, we disagree on this one then, McCain’s record during Vietnam is NOT in question, and NOWHERE in my comments did I question him in that area…
John McCain NOW is nothing more than a RINO, plain and simple, he’s a hell of a lot closer to the Dems, in ALL areas, than he is to the Repubs, and I’ll tell you another area where we disagree, there is no way in hell I’d vote for someone just because they’re the Republican candidate, I don’t do the ‘ticket’…
Who has McCain aligned himself with of late?? Feingold and Kennedy??
I think the word LOSER is actually giving him a hell of a lot more credit than he deserves…
If McCain OR Giuliani are the best the Republicans can offer, we are truly screwed, and I will sit this one out, no BS, I will sit it out if it comes down to Obama/Clinton, either one in any combination and McCain/Giuliani in any combination, I will NEVER hang my head and say I voted for the lesser of the 2 evils, NEVER again…
But I will do what I should have done the 2nd time Bush ran, NOTHING, and then worn a sign saying “Don’t blame me, I didn’t vote for the bastard…”
Fred, I don’t think McCain is “a hell of a lot closer to the Dems, in ALL areas” than he is to republicans. Remember that John Mc Cain had his own tax cut plan AND spending cut plan back in 2000. I think we might both agree that if we had cut spending over the last 6 years the country might be better off. I also don’t think that McCain a hell of a lot closer to the Dems, in ALL areas when it comes to the battle in Iraq which is part of the war on terrorism…imho.
He may lose. I just don’t think he is a “loser.”

Seriously, I am with you on this one. McCain is giving America away like the other socialist liberal loser party. We need a real conservative candidate in office. I picking Tancredo. If Fred actually declares I may be persuaded.

The only candidate in the whole buch that I would love to vote for is talk show host Michael Savage. He got eleven million votes on his web site to run as an independent. I was a die hard reppublican until George Bush dismantled the party. I could care less what party anyone belongs too anymore. I will vote or a true conservative or no one. I fully agree…no more “lesser of two evils”. I voted for GW as the lesser of two evils and what a disaster for America.
Brad Marston; if you are impressed with McCain because of his POW status, you should be kissing the ring of Sam Johnson who spent two years longer in a POW camp than McCain. Johnson has never played on his POW status and has not used it to propell him to the top of the line. And if you have ever watched Johnson at the podium, you can see the extent of his injuries.
I have not liked McCain since he joined forces with John (Fifth column) Kerry and turned his back on those left behind in Vietnam. McCain is an opportunist and that has been clear to anyone who has an I.Q. above room temperature.
I campaigned twice for Bush. I was a state convention delegate. I will not vote for McCain and have refused to donate to the RNC as long as that money continues to help those like Kyl, McCain, Specter. I will now donate to the candidate of my choice directly. And if that candidate happens to be a Blue Dog, so be it.
McCain is not a loser, per se. He is just another opportunist who touts himself as a Republican because he knows that is the ticket he can win on. McCain is as much a Republican as Ron Paul. But with any luck at all, next election, McCain will be a “loser”.

And it has NOTHING to do with a military record, and by the way, Mr. Sam IS my Congressman, and I think the world of him too, but this isn’t about who did what in Vietnam, the terrible things McCain endured in Hanoi have NOTHING to do with the idiot he has become of late, as I said, I feel he’s more of a Dem than most Dems, and I am not trying to start a fight or cause hard feelings, but I’ll be damned, I’ll NEVER vote for an IDIOT again!
