KDFW-FOX4 Suspends Reporter Rebecca Aguilar After Controversial “Ambush” Reporting

Thursday, October 18th, 2007

Monday night, KDFW-Channel 4 ran a piece about 70-year-old James Walton, owner of Able Walton Machine & Welding in West Dallas, who, early Sunday morning, shot and killed and man trying to break into his business. What made Walton’s story so extraordinary was that it was the second time he’d killed an intruder in three weeks. As it happens, Walton also lives at his place of business.

But today you will not find the Fox4 story on the station’s Web site; there’s a page for it, but no accompanying video. (Update: It’s available here.) That’s because Rebecca Aguilar’s piece elicited a torrent of outrage, both on local blogs (chiefly FrontBurner but also elsewhere) and from viewers who began deluging the station with angry calls Monday night and much of the day yesterday. As Trey Garrison pointed out on D’s blog:

This is her idea of journalism? Ambushing a 70-year-old man who has been through life-and-death twice in three weeks? “Are you a trigger happy kind of person? Is that what what you wanted to do? Shoot to kill?” Good Lord, I hate the people in this field.

Well, Trey need not worry about Aguilar, at least for a while: Unfair Park has confirmed that Aguilar — who was just named one of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists’ Broadcast Journalists of the Year — has been indefinitely suspended, based on concerns about how Aguilar treated Walton. She could not be reached for comment, but Unfair Park did leave Aguilar a message on her cell phone. (When we tried her number in the newsroom, another woman answered and said, “Rebecca isn’t available today.”) We also left a message for Maria Barrs, the station’s news director. –Robert Wilonsky

This is the same story I had up a couple of days ago, West Dallas business owner kills 2 suspected burglars in 3 weeks about the Dallas business owner that has taken a personal interest in NOT letting the BAD GUYS rob him blind, and to that gentleman, Mr. Walton, I say GOOD for you and I am proud to have you as a resident of this area…

Well, apparently one Ms. Rebecca Aguilar, of KDFW-FOX4 here in the Dallas wasn’t so happy with Mr. Walton, the only thing I can say thats printable concerning Aguilar at this moment is, I am glad she is suspended…

I want to extend many thanks to Dan Riehl of Riehl World View: Senior Reduced To Tears By Reporter After Shooting for using my story as a part of his, thank you Dan, You Da Man!

And Dan has the video OF this story too, please pop in and take a look at what ‘hack reporting’ from KDFW-FOX4 really looks like…

Shame on Rebecca Aguilar for this trash journalism and even MORE shame on KDFW-FOX4 producers and management for letting it air in the 1st place…

Report: Mexico drug violence could spill into U.S.

Tuesday, October 16th, 2007
Report: Mexico drug violence could spill into U.S.

Drug-gang violence that plagues Mexico is worsening and could spill over into the United States, according to a new report by a consultant on Gov. Rick Perry’s Texas Border Security Council.

While Mexican President Felipe Calderon has deployed as many as 20,000 troops and federal police to battle the country’s powerful drug cartels, gangsters are fighting among themselves for dominance as the flow of drugs continues into America.

The 17-page document to be released today said that more than 2,100 people were killed in drug-related violence since Jan. 1, making 2007 the deadliest year yet.

It said the U.S. side of the border is vulnerable because law enforcement is poorly coordinated, under-supplied and sometimes corrupt.

But drug violence, which has become a part of daily life in many Mexican border communities, has not materialized to a significant extent in their American sister cities.

Mexico drug violence could spill into U.S. - Houston Chronicle

I have a surprise for you guys writing this story, it already has spilled over, they just haven’t had the running machine gun battles through the streets of a major U.S. city yet, but even that is coming…

Drug gang murders happen every day, and along the border, they happen with great frequency, and in many cases they go totally unnoticed as a drug murder, bodies are found in remote areas all the time, killed by gunshot, stabbing, beating, strangulation, who knows what other methods, in some cases it’s the Coyotes, the human smugglers, they turn on the people they are smuggling, in some instances it’s the robbers that prey on the illegals coming into this nation, double jeopardy for the illegals, they are generally carrying everything they have of value and whatever money they still have left, but in many are simply drug runners, narcotics smugglers, and they have been taken out by a rival gang, killed for control of a trade route, killed for their cargo of drugs, their bodies left to rot in the desert simply because the killers know that there’s not going to be a lot of forensic investigation done to determine much more than ‘Yep, another Mexican bought it coming in’

We don’t have the human resources to investigate and determine every exact detail of those deaths nor do we have the financial resources available, and until running gun battles are taking place in our own major cities, there will STILL be nothing more done than has been done already, and again, that is NOTHING…

Only God knows how many gangs are already in place and doing business, they ply their deadly trade, they deal in death and destruction, every day, it’s a matter of business for them, their product is DEATH, in every sense of the word, it kills those that USE the drugs and it kills those that transport the drugs and it kills innocent family members and innocent citizens every day, and what gets done about the illegals in this nation and the drug trade they conduct??

Very little, our borders are still wide open and now that the weather has cooled some, the human wave of illegals begins to come across once again, it’s never stopped but with cooling desert temperatures they come in HUGE numbers, and with that wave comes a lot more than illegals…

And one pretty simple question comes to mind on this thing too, if you can successfully smuggle people and drugs into the USA, doesn’t it stand to reason that terrorists are being smuggled in by the same people as well?? I wonder if Bush ever thought of that??

Arlington Standoff ends badly…

Saturday, October 13th, 2007

A 32-year-old man who killed his estranged wife and two stepchildren in Fort Worth held Arlington police at bay for several hours Friday afternoon, holed up in his car, before speeding off and driving into Lake Arlington, where he shot himself in the head.

Arthur Jackson was pronounced dead at the scene Friday night.

Police became aware of Jackson’s ordeal at 12:24 p.m. when Jackson dropped off his 3-year-old daughter at Mayfield Road Baptist Church in Arlington. The child was covered in blood but was uninjured. She has temporarily been placed in foster care.

“He stated to them that he just killed some people and was going to kill some more,” said Christy Gilfour, Arlington police spokeswoman.

A few minutes later, Arlington police found Jackson in his car parked in a driveway of a relative’s home in the 3300 block of Carter Drive and began to negotiate with him. Police blocked the driveway with a 16,000-pound armored truck.

This was all over the national news yesterday, and as you can imagine, here in the D/FW area, we were inundated with it…

My sympathies go out to the family and friends, this is a terrible loss and I know you’re hurting and I am truly sorry for that but to the associated police departments involved in this standoff I have to ask, what in the HELL were you guys doing?? The local news had already started to spin this one at 10:00 PM last night, they had some police spokesmen on saying that proper police procedures were followed, oh really?? What kind of police procedure was this??

At 7:25 p.m., police say Jackson rammed his gray Nissan Altima into the armored truck and drove over a lawn to escape.

This article says “Police blocked the driveway with a 16,000-pound armored truck.” and the guy rams the damned thing with a Nissan Altima and gets away??

Here’s a suggestion for the Keystone Cops of Arlington, get you several of those Nissan Altima cars, they would be a lot cheaper than armored assault vehicles, and they appear to be a hell of a lot tougher too…

Incredible, simply incredible…

Mychal Bell of the ‘Jena 6′ Back in Jail

Friday, October 12th, 2007

NEW ORLEANS (AP) - A black teenager whose prosecution in the beating of a white classmate drew thousands to Louisiana for a civil rights demonstration is back in jail, but a prosecutor said Friday the sentence has nothing to do with the racially charged case.

Mychal Bell, 17, was unexpectedly sent back to prison on Thursday after going to juvenile court in central Louisiana’s LaSalle Parish for what he expected to be a routine hearing, Carol Powell Lexing, one of his attorneys said.

Instead, state District Judge J.P. Mauffrey Jr. decided Bell had violated probation and sentenced him to 18 months in jail on two counts of simple battery and two counts of criminal destruction of property, Lexing said.

“This matter was unrelated to the December 2006 event at Jena High School, and that case was not even mentioned in the court proceedings,” District Attorney Reed Walters said Friday.

Bell had faced charges before the Dec. 4 attack on white classmate Justin Barker at Jena High School. Walters’ decision to pursue adult felongy charges against Bell and others who became known as the Jena Six led to charges of unfairness and, eventually, to last month’s march that drew an estimated 20,000 to 25,000 to the little town of Jena.

Damn, can’t a brother catch a break?? What’s it gonna take?? The brother just needs a break and some adult mentoring…

I am betting that this will be the reaction from Black leaders Je$$ie Jack$on and Al $harpton, I would bet BIG bucks on it, this only happened because the young man was ‘misunderstood’ and because he’s Black, I mean, you KNOW it has nothing to do with him being a criminal, a juvenile delinquent or whatever the street term for BAD kid is today…

And I am also guessing that the race baiters are going to scream bloody murder that state District Judge J.P. Mauffrey Jr. is nothing but a racist, he just hate da boy, and that’s likely what it is, I mean, District Judges are noted racists you know…

Yes, that IS sarcasm..

Alberto Gonzales Hires Defense Attorney

Thursday, October 11th, 2007

WASHINGTON (AP) - Former Attorney General Alberto Gonzales has hired a high-powered Washington lawyer to represent him in investigations of mismanagement of the Justice Department. George Terwilliger, a white-collar crime defense attorney and the second-ranking Justice official in the early 1990s, was on the White House’s short list last month to replace Gonzales.

Investigators are look into allegations that Gonzales lied to lawmakers and illegally allowed politics to influence hiring and firing at the department.

Terwilliger said Gonzales, a close friend of the president’s and a former Texas Supreme Court justice, maintains he did nothing wrong or illegal, and that hiring an attorney should not signal any guilt.

“It would really be unfair to individuals who are smart enough to get themselves a lawyer to draw some inference that they need a lawyer because they did something wrong,” Terwilliger said in an Associated Press interview.

Ya know, I may be wrong, but I am seriously of the belief that there’s going to be a lot of high powered lawyers put on retainer as the Bush administration draws to a close, and being an attorney himself, and especially being the former AG, I am guessing that Gonzo thinks he’s may need an attorney, and as I have heard said, an attorney that represents himself, has a fool for a client, so, all in all, Gonzo is likely making a wise decision…

And since Terwilliger didn’t get the job as AG, and can’t prosecute Gonzo FOR the government, he might as well make a ton of money defending him FROM the government, hell, Terwilliger can’t lose…

Just sayin’…
